The Walker Runner Hits Pause — But He’s Still Moving!

At almost 75, Bob Hardy — The Walker Runner — was charging toward the 2025 World Transplant Games in Dresden, with medals in sight. After a crash in 2024 and months of rehab, Bob clocked a new personal best in April. The dream was alive.
Then, on May 5th, everything changed. A stroke hit. Racing? Paused. Driving? Paused. Speech? Limited. But movement? Still happening.
The Trionic “racing machine” is now the Stroke Mobile. Same wheels, new mission: daily 2-km walks to stay upright, stay active, and stay defiant.
The World Transplant Games, Longueuil Marathon, and his beloved Ottawa Race Weekend? Cancelled… sort of. Leah, his daughter, raced in his place — bib and all — as “Little Robert,” crossing the finish line in his honor.
From black belt with leukemia to ultra-marathons with a walker, Bob’s journey has never been about quitting — it’s about adapting.
This isn’t goodbye to racing. It’s just a pause.
